What do I need to do to make my charity available on eBay?

Because we partner with the PayPal Giving Fund to confirm your charity status and transfer charity donations from eBay to your charity, you must do these 3 things:

  1. Create a PayPal Business account
  2. Get confirmed as a charity by PayPal
  3. Enrol in the PayPal Giving Fund

What is the PayPal Giving Fund?

The PayPal Giving Fund is a registered non-profit that connects donors, businesses and charities in order to help charities raise new funds. eBay for Charity works directly with the PayPal Giving Fund to enable sellers to donate a portion of their sales and buyers to shop while supporting their favourite charity. It’s a win-win opportunity!

Participation in the PayPal Giving Fund is free, plus they provide donation and donor reports, issue tax receipts, aggregate donations for monthly electronic distribution, as well as handling legal registration requirements. Learn more about the PayPal Giving Fund.

How do I know if my charity is already enrolled in the PayPal Giving Fund?

  • Try searching for your charity using our Find a Charity tool. If your charity is showing up on eBay then you're all set.
  • If you don’t find your charity in the eBay list, try searching the PayPal Giving Fund site for your charity. If your charity appears on this site then it should appear on eBay in 1-2 days.
  • If you don’t see your charity on the PayPal Giving Fund site, you will need to check whether your charity is already a PayPal Confirmed Charity or not.
  • After your charity status has been confirmed, follow the steps to enrol in the PayPal Giving Fund. Once enrolment is complete, it will take 1-2 days before your charity starts appearing on the list of supported charities on eBay.

How can I verify that my enrolment in PayPal Giving Fund is complete?

Try searching the PayPal Giving Fund site for your charity. If your charity appears on this site then it should appear on the eBay list of supported charities in 1-2 days. You can confirm that your charity profile is available on eBay by searching for your charity using the Find a Charity tool.

How do I update the information included on my charity's profile page on eBay?

Since eBay uses the information you provided to the PayPal Giving Fund, including your logo and mission statement, any changes to the eBay charity profile page will need to be made by logging into your PayPal Giving Fund account and editing your profile.

My charity is registered with PayPal but it’s not showing on eBay. What can I do?

  • You will need to first check that your charity is already a PayPal Confirmed Charity.
  • After your charity status has been confirmed, follow the steps to enrol in the PayPal Giving Fund. Once enrolment is complete, it will take 1-2 days before your charity starts appearing on the list of supported charities on eBay.

How can I see all the listings on eBay that will benefit my charity?

  • Go to your charity’s profile page by searching for your charity and then selecting your charity from the search results.
  • On your organisation's profile page, scroll down to the eBay Sales for Charity section to see all listings that have added your charity to their listing. If there are no items currently listed on eBay supporting your charity, we’ll display a selection of listings supporting similar charities on eBay.
  • By default, the items will be sorted by Time: newly listed. You can also see the highest priced items by changing the sort order to Price + postage: highest first.

What can I do if I don’t want a listing to benefit my charity?

Occasionally, a listing isn't a good fit for a non-profit. As the representative of your charity, you can request that an eBay for Charity listing be cancelled.

  • Send the email to DL-eBay-E2M-BackOfficeCARE@ebay.com.
  • Subject: eBay for Charity item removal.
  • Email body:
    • I certify that I am authorised to act on behalf of [enter your charity's name].
    • Name: [enter you name]
    • Please cancel this listing: [enter the item number found at the top right of the listing's description.]
    • URL: [copy and paste the full URL of the listing]

2. ADD DIRECT SELLERS

What is a Direct Seller?

A Direct Seller is an employee or authorised agent who is designated to sell directly on behalf of a charity and is included on the list of Direct Sellers for the charity. If you need to add or remove Direct Sellers, please ask the Charity Administrator who knows the PayPal account login credentials to go to the Direct Selling for Charity page where they can log in to access the relevant tools.

Benefits of using Direct Sellers include:

  • 100% of proceeds from selling an item go directly to the charity.
  • No insertion or final value fees are charged. Learn more.
  • All funds are deposited immediately into the PayPal account of the charity

How can I add or remove a Direct Seller from our charity?

You will need to contact the administrator for the charity's PayPal account who can log into the Direct Selling for Charity page to add or remove Direct Sellers.

How can I tell if I’m set up correctly as a Direct Seller?

You can see if your eBay username is affiliated as a Direct Seller for a charity on the Donation Account Settings page. If you are a charity administrator, you can view your Direct Sellers list by logging into the Direct Selling for Charity page.

Can I be a Direct Seller for multiple charities using the same account?

Yes. Just be sure that your account has been added to the Direct Seller list by asking the Charity administrator to log into the Direct Selling for Charity page and adding your eBay username as an authorised Direct Seller. When you list an item and choose to donate to a charity for which you are a Direct Seller, 100% of the sale will be deposited to the charity’s PayPal account.

I’m already a Direct Seller for a charity. Can I donate to other charities using the same account?

Yes, just select the charity of choice when listing the item. If you choose to donate to a charity for which you are not set up as a Direct Seller, the proceeds from the sale will be deposited into your personal PayPal account and the PayPal Giving Fund will automatically collect the funds from your account before delivering the donation to the Charity you selected.

3. LIST, SELL AND GET 100%

When will our charity receive the donations from sold listings created by our Direct Sellers?

As soon as the buyer pays for the item, the funds will be paid to the charity’s PayPal account. This is one of the benefits of designating a Direct Seller rather than waiting for the normal seller donation collection and payout cycle which generally takes 3-6 weeks.

When will our charity receive the donations from standard eBay sellers?

The PayPal Giving Fund combines donations received from eBay sellers from the 16th of the previous month to the 15th of the current month and then delivers a single bulk donation to their PayPal balance at the end of the current month. For example, if a donation is paid on 10 October, the donation will be delivered to the charity at the end of October. However, if a donation is paid on 20 October, the donation will be delivered to the charity at the end of November.

Why did PayPal Giving Fund collect the donation from our charity's PayPal account?

This happens if the seller account is not properly set up as a Direct Seller for the charity. You can see if your eBay username is affiliated as a Direct Seller for a charity on the Donation Account Settings page. If you don’t see the charity on this list, please ask your charity administrator to log into the Direct Selling for Charity page to add your account as a Direct Seller. You don’t need to do anything else as the funds collected will be redistributed to your charity's PayPal account in the next cycle.

I am a Direct Seller for a charity. Why am I receiving invoices to pay my donations?

Your seller account may not be set up correctly. You can see if your eBay username is affiliated as a Direct Seller for a charity on the Donation Account Settings page. If you don’t see the charity on this list, please ask your charity administrator to log into the Direct Selling for Charity page to add your account as a Direct Seller. Once your eBay username has been added as a Direct Seller, any outstanding invoices will automatically be cancelled.

Why was I charged fees even though I am set up as a Direct Seller?

Even if your account is set up as a Direct Seller, the option to Donate a portion to charity is not automatically selected. Remember to select this option as well as your charity when listing any item.

Also, while Direct Sellers of charity items will not be charged insertion or final value fees, advanced listing upgrade fees such as reserve price or subtitle will still be charged. Learn more about selling fees.
